• Includes Freely Distributable Viewer. Each copy of Maptician includes a freely distributable copy of Maptician LT. Maptician LT is a viewing tool which allows users access to Bus Routing, Bus Stops and Attendance area information. Maptician LT can be freely distributed to anyone both inside and outside of the school district.

• Automated Self-Maintenance. Maptician includes an Internet upgrade tool. The Internet upgrade tool automatically scans DEC's web site for upgrades and enhancements to Maptician. If an upgrade is located, the user is prompted for permission to download and install the upgrade.

• No Mandatory Annual Fees. There are no mandatory annual fees associated with the use of Maptician. Users can choose to purchase annual support and maintenance, which provides for telephone support between the hours of 8AM to 7PM EST and all software upgrades. Alternatively, users can elect to purchase upgrades for a small differential fee. Unlimited Email support is always free.

• Open File Structures. All internal data files used in Maptician are Open Source. There are no binary files used by Maptician which are not accessible by the users. Open Source data provides users with multitude of options for customization and support. As an example, if an additional report is required by a new state regulation, the open nature of the Maptician data allows for anyone with experience in Crystal Reports to develop the report. The user is not forced to come back to DEC for such support services.

• ESRI Based Solution. ESRI is the worldwide leader in GIS and Mapping Technology and the standard in over 85% of the State and Local governments in the US.  ESRI compatibility allows for direct exchange of data with most state and county agencies without the need for data translation.  Compatibility will also allow your school district to receive  updated road data from your county or city GIS department, eliminating the need for in-house maintenance of road data.
